Fueled by Lanakila Mangauil’s passion for Hawaiian culture and his interest in environmental stewardship, community members have rallied together to work with him in creating the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua.
The first step in creating such a center? Secure funding. Through the generous support of our community, we successfully raised more than $20,000 through our Kickstarter campaign.
The Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua is a multi-cultural, multi-generational community center situated in the heart of Honoka‘a on the Island of Hawai‘i.
It is a space for residents to deepen their connection with Hawaiian culture through community classes in arts, hula, language, history, agriculture, philosophy, and more. The center hosts special events, guest speakers, community service projects, and cultural exchange programs, creating a foundation for future generations.
Visitors, too, can enjoy the center, stopping in to learn about the history and culture of Hawaii from docents and practitioners who will gladly share information or simply talk story.
