Classes at the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua will feature some of our area’s finest instructors as well as guest presenters from around the island.
Lanakila Mangauil, a native of Honoka‘a, is a Hawaiian cultural practitioner. He brings nearly a decade of experience to the center. Through his E Ola Mau I Ka Pono program he’ll offer community hula, a Mano‘o Pono series of 10-week courses, and his Lokahi Honua cultural exchange.
Hualalai Keohuloa and Wa‘a Hamakua bring sailing and wa‘a (canoe) history to the community. Hualalai descends from a family of long time voyagers, pioneers of Hawai‘i’s first modern deep sea voyaging canoes, Hokule‘a and Makali‘i.
Brad Bordessa will offer beginning and intermediate ‘ukulele in both group and individual lessons. A graduate of UH Maui’s Institute of Hawaiian Music, he’s taught previously at North Hawai‘i Education Resource Center and for the Center for Hawaiian Music Studies.
